📅 Updated October 2026 Plans, prices, the free domain terms, the first screens of the order form and the post-purchase tools (the Account Management Panel, Softaculous and free SSL) were checked against InMotion's own pages and support guides on October 13, 2026, in US dollars. The last checkout screen (account details and payment) was not walked through for this update. Several screenshots in this guide were captured earlier, so the order form you see may differ in small details (for example an “Add To Cart” button or a “Review My Order” page).

InMotion Hosting is a US web hosting company, and its shared hosting plans are called Launch, Power and Pro. This guide takes you from the plans page to a working WordPress site with an SSL certificate, and flags what to check before you pay. For a full evaluation of the company, read the InMotion Hosting review.

In short: choose a billing term, press Select on a plan, set your domain, finish the Complete step, then use InMotion's Account Management Panel (AMP) to open cPanel, install WordPress with Softaculous and switch on the free SSL. Three things deserve care before you pay: the term (the free domain needs a 12, 24 or 36-month plan), the renewal price (about three times the intro price on a one-year term) and the refund rules.

💰 InMotion shared hosting plans and prices (October 2026)

These are the monthly prices shown on InMotion's shared hosting page for each billing term, with the renewal price in brackets. The page's term tabs are one month, one year, two years and three years, and the three-year tab showed the same prices as the two-year tab when it was read.

PlanWebsites and storage1 month1 year2 years
Launch2 sites, 100GB NVMe$16.99 (renews $16.99)$4.79 (renews $14.99)$4.99 (renews $13.99)
Power10 sites, 200GB NVMe$17.99 (renews $20.99)$5.79 (renews $18.99)$5.99 (renews $17.99)
Pro40 sites, 300GB NVMe, 2 vCPU, 4GB RAM$26.99 (renews $27.99)$10.59 (renews $25.99)$10.99 (renews $24.99)

Notice that the one-year price is the lowest per month ($4.79 on Launch), while the two-year price renews lower ($13.99 against $14.99). InMotion's terms say non-enterprise products are paid in one advance payment, so by calculation Launch for a year is about $57.48 and for two years about $119.76 at the displayed prices (the page does not show totals). The renewal on a one-year Launch plan is about 3.1 times the intro price ($14.99 against $4.79).

What every plan includes, according to the plans page: unmetered bandwidth, a free SSL certificate, malware and DDoS protection with a web application firewall, free website migration (free with one cPanel or WordPress backup), free cPanel email accounts, a one-month Professional Email trial, unlimited subdomains and databases, one-click installs of 400+ applications through Softaculous, SSH and WP-CLI, a choice of data center and a free domain “with select terms” (a $23 a year value). Support is by chat and ticket on Launch, and by chat and phone on Power and Pro.

✅ Check these four things before you pay

  • The term and the renewal price. The agreement says the contract renews automatically for terms of equal length at InMotion's then-current rates, which may be higher or lower than before, unless you switch off auto-renewal in your account. Write down the renewal date.
  • The free domain terms. The plans page says the free domain credit applies only to 12, 24 or 36-month plans, for a new registration or a transfer of a non-premium .com, .org, .net, .info or .biz domain. It is free for the first year only and renews at the regular price. If you cancel within the money-back period, the regular price of the domain is deducted from your refund, and domain registration fees are not refundable.
  • Refunds and cancellation. InMotion advertises a 90-day money-back guarantee on all shared plans. Its universal terms add that amounts are non-refundable unless the guarantee says otherwise, and that cancelling a non-enterprise product before the end of its term carries a minimum $50 early cancellation fee. How that fee interacts with the 90-day guarantee is not explained on the pages read, so ask InMotion's chat before paying if the refund matters to you, and keep the reply.
  • Add-ons. The plans page lists a backup manager, professional email and a dedicated IP as add-ons (the dedicated IP is included on Pro). Do not assume backups are included: keep your own copies of the site with a WordPress backup plugin.

🛒 Step by step: how to buy InMotion hosting

1
Open the plans page and choose the billing term. Above the three plan cards, pick 1 Month, 1 Year, 2 Year or 3 Year. The prices on the cards change with the term, and each card shows its renewal price. If you want the free domain, choose a term of 12 months or longer.

2
Press Select on the plan you want. Launch suits one or two small sites, Power covers up to 10 sites with phone support, and Pro is for up to 40 sites with a dedicated IP. The button opens InMotion's secure order form, which shows three stages: Hosting, Domain and Complete.
3
Choose your domain. The Domain stage asks you to choose between “Purchase new domain,” “Use my existing domain” and “Choose My Domain Later.” Type the name into the search box and press “Search Domains.” If the name is taken, change it until it shows as available. If you already own a domain elsewhere, choose “Use my existing domain” and type it in; you will point its nameservers to InMotion after the purchase.

4
Finish the Complete stage. This last stage collects your account details and your payment method (an earlier walkthrough listed card and PayPal; confirm on screen). Use a real email address you can open, a strong password and your correct billing details. Before you pay, read the order summary: the plan, the term, the domain line, the total and any add-on you did not choose. Remove anything you do not need, then confirm the order. This stage was not walked through for this update.

5
Open the confirmation email and set your password. InMotion emails you a confirmation with your login details. In an earlier walkthrough a “To Get Started” link in that email led to a page for choosing a password for the account. Keep the email: it shows your order and the date of the first payment, which you need if you ask for a refund.

6
Log in to the Account Management Panel (AMP). AMP is InMotion's account dashboard. From it you reach cPanel, your billing details, and the Manage Free Basic SSL tool.

7
Open cPanel and install WordPress with Softaculous. In AMP click the cPanel button, then open the Softaculous Apps Installer in the Software section, choose WordPress and click Install. In the form, choose the protocol (https), pick your domain, leave the directory field empty to install on the main domain, type the site name and description, and set an admin username, a strong password and an email address. Review any optional plugins or advanced settings and leave anything you do not recognise unticked, then press Install. Softaculous finishes the install in a few minutes (InMotion says under two minutes for most apps) and shows the site and admin links. Skip this step if you chose a pre-installed WordPress option at checkout.

Switch on the free SSL. On shared hosting you turn on free AutoSSL from AMP, not from inside cPanel. In AMP click “Manage Free Basic SSL,” make sure the switch under “Enable Free SSL” is ON, then press the blue “Run Check Now” button. The domain must already point to InMotion and exist in cPanel to be eligible; use “Check Eligibility” to see a green check or a red X (the “Find out why” link explains a red X). InMotion's guide says each certificate lasts 90 days and renews on its own about 30 days before it ends. The certificate is not instant, so give it time before you check the padlock.

9
Open the WordPress dashboard. Go to your site's address and add /wp-admin at the end (for example yourdomain.com/wp-admin), then log in with the admin username and password you chose in step 7. From there you can write posts, add pages and install a theme and plugins. You can also open it from the Installations list inside Softaculous.

🔧 If something does not work

  • The SSL does not install. InMotion's guide lists the usual causes: the domain does not point to the InMotion server yet, it is not added in cPanel as the primary, addon, subdomain or parked domain, an old custom or expired certificate is still installed (AutoSSL will not replace it), a stale IPv6 (AAAA) record points elsewhere, or .htaccess redirects block the validation request.
  • Your own domain does not load. If the domain is registered elsewhere, change its nameservers to the ones InMotion gives you and allow time for the change to spread. Read what a domain is if the terms are new.
  • You cannot find Softaculous. It sits in the Software section of cPanel. Labels can change over time, so use the search box at the top of cPanel.

❓ Do I need a coupon code?

No code was needed to see these prices. The reduced prices are shown on the plan cards, and the cart is where you check the total before paying.

❓ Is the domain really free?

Free for the first year when you buy a 12, 24 or 36-month plan, for a new registration or a transfer of a non-premium .com, .org, .net, .info or .biz domain. It renews at the regular price, and the regular price is deducted from your refund if you cancel within the money-back period.

❓ What is the refund policy?

InMotion advertises a 90-day money-back guarantee on shared plans. Its universal terms say amounts are otherwise non-refundable and mention a minimum $50 early cancellation fee for cancelling before the end of a term, so ask InMotion's chat how the two apply to your plan before you pay.

❓ Which plan should a beginner choose?

Launch for one or two small sites, which is enough for most first projects. Choose Power if you want up to 10 sites or phone support, and Pro only if you need 40 sites, 2 vCPU and 4GB RAM or a dedicated IP.

❓ Does InMotion include backups?

The plans page lists a backup manager as an add-on and does not promise automatic backups that you control, so keep your own backups of the site with a plugin.

❓ How do I install WordPress on InMotion?

Log in to AMP, open cPanel, open the Softaculous Apps Installer in the Software section, choose WordPress and click Install, then fill in the domain, site name and admin details.

❓ How do I get the free SSL certificate?

In AMP open “Manage Free Basic SSL,” switch on “Enable Free SSL” and press “Run Check Now.” The domain must point to InMotion and exist in cPanel. The certificate is issued by AutoSSL, lasts 90 days and renews automatically.

❓ What happens when the term ends?

The agreement says the contract renews automatically for a term of equal length at the then-current rates unless you cancel or switch off auto-renewal. A one-year Launch plan was listed as renewing at $14.99 a month.

❓ Can I move an existing site to InMotion?

Yes. The plans page says website migration is free and handled by InMotion's team when you provide one cPanel or WordPress backup.
